I created a new acct.@ ncix.com since I didn't want to use the gf's anymore. When I started purchasing, I noticed the CPU was $40 bucks more, the mobo $11 and I stopped there as I started to get sticker shock. :eek I went back to my gf's acct. and lo and behold, the lower prices were there. Is this a common practice with seemingly new customers? Needless to say, I changed the info in the gf's acct and ordered from there.

Wow...Personally I think that should be illegal.

I would email them and see what they have to say for themselves.

I've never heard of it. I usually don't log into an account until I am ready to check out. I have never experienced that before.

Hmm, I'll see what not logging in gives me and yes, I am emailing them. I was quite surprised to say the least though they usually have the best prices for parts or close enough that it would would cost me more by splitting the order due to the extra S&H and the fact that I save %7 on taxes for some reason as compared to other sites like Tiger. We'll see what they have to say.

Well, I've never bought anything online (don't have a credit card :) ), but I was planning on using NCIX if I ever decided to build my own computer. If they're pulling a stunt like that, I'll never be one of their customers.

OK, checked out the prices not being logged in and it's at the higher price. Maybe join them and ask for the newsletter and see what happens, we can compare notes.

I have seen some online stores giving existing older customers preferential rates Augie, but now you know on the two accounts the price difference ( many customers wouldnt know the difference unless like you had access to another account ) I would email them and ask why? as its not a great marketing technique to bring new business in.

I suppose I can see them doing that - but you'd think they would state that somewhere so threads like this wouldn't arise.

@augiedoggie: I signed up for the newsletter - I'll report back when I get it.

    augie, just as an experiment:

Put some things in your cart and then go to check out...I would assume it will ask you to log in at this point. Log into your GF's account and see if the prices change.

Good idea and this is now getting confusing from a marketing standpoint too, darn weird. :confused I hope I can be clear here and be as concise as possible.

If I'm not logged in or logged in with the new acct., then the higher price is what is shown on their main page.

If I then add the item directly to the shopping cart while not being logged in and then logging into either old or new acct., then the higher price is recorded in both. However, if I first put the item into my 'wish list' first using either my old/new acct., then the sale price appears properly and when transferred to my shopping cart the sale price is properly transferred.

So, in summary they don't seem to show their better price for their 'new' customers but they do adjust the price when it's added to one's wish list. Like Halo said, not a good marketing ploy at all.

Maybe they'll reward me by paying for my parts by pointing this issue out.:-D

Still no newsletter - I'm beginning to think someone tipped them off about our note comparing :-D. I've tried signing up two other email addresses I've got, but nothing there either.

They usually put one out on Thursdays, make sure you check your spambox too as they send one when registering.

Or it could also just be a bug in the system design affecting new signups? Stuff like that can happen :)

Personally, that's why I shop Newegg.com. Period. Not only are the prices awesome, I put in an order on 5pm thursday and had it Friday afternoon. Regular ground shipping too! You can't BUY service like that. Everywhere else can hang.

That is why I stick with Tiger Direct. Not only that, but there warehouse and store is only 20 minutes from the house, so I can just walk in and get whatever they have on the website. However...if I do order to be shipped...as long as you order it by 3pm then anywhere in Illinois it comes the next day, even with standard 3 day shipping. I know you're not in Illinois, but just wanted to say.

It would be nice to have newegg up here but they chickened out coming up here after announcing they would some three years ago.

@Rog, I found Tiger had good prices for periphs but couldn't beat ncix for parts and that's how I divide my orders, besides going to other Canadian sites.

Would that big underground electrical fire in BC a little while ago have something to do with the sign up problem? I had heard on the news that a server running many websites in North America was knocked out - I'm not sure if the power is back on yet.

I love me some NewEgg! They support my personal ban on Canada!;)

Ordered me a new Folding rig last night...

Personal ban? :confused Did you know our Prime Minister has his nose so far up your President's arse that he has become a naturalized American citizen? ;) :-D

I just tried signing up using Opera (thought Firefox's NoScript might be causing the problem) - no luck there, either.

Well, the main site has been up all weekend so I doubt that would be the reason, plus the are in Richmond BC.

Yeah Augie, my personal ban. If your Prime Minister wants his nose there, he can have it! So you have a brown nosing part American PM... My plan is working...

My boycott of Canadian products (except Water Crackers) will bring Canada DOWN! :-D

What the heck are Water Crackers? We'll be headed down the tubes right along with the U.S. if your economy keeps slumping :-D.

I've never heard of that, but that is most certainly illegal. Unless your gf had qualified for some type of discount, Seems to me that they're trying to take advantage of new customers.

I second this. I was actually going to say this when I first started reading. Newegg.com is definitely great.

Heck no! It is all part of my evil plan... We will use all your oil, then charge you outrageous amounts of $ for ours when our stupid politicians allow more drilling here! And I have found replacement crackers made here in the states.

Water crackers are 'da bomb with wine and cheese! :wine
