I have noticed the same thing happening here that has on other sites, most of the males think that Internet Romance sucks 51% here so far, and most females think it's plausible, and yet if you go to any Internet Dating site the males outnumber the females by about 4-1!!!!! Aren't these the same guys who say in the surveys that Internet Dating sucks, makes one wonder just what there doing there............................??????

How do you know all those 51% are male?

I think men in general are more intimidated by the unknown, and less willing to admit that they can consider unconventional ways of meeting someone special. The same guys would probably say they would never think of meeting someone in the gym or when they go bowling with the lads. Good thing for us women is that men act more than they talk! :D

which is sometimes annoying because you dont know how important a woman to a man because they never say it. all they do is do their stuff and its for us woman to figure out what they actually mean by that or if what they are doing is really what they are feeling. you get what em sayin'? sometimes a man got to do what a man's got to do... and woman were left bewildered on the process.

In any case what is the difference to meeting in a church, bar, post office or a walk in the park? 1 main thing is that your more open on the net esp if your like me just here for fun and learning (and playing games....lol) if you met someone on the way all is well and good...maybe it'll work maybe it wont.

I dunno. Personally, I always made a point of constantly telling my wife how much I loved her, and what she meant to me, yadda, yadda. Didn't stop her getting 'bored', or whatever was going through her mind after 24 years, or so. Ah well, whaddaya do?

Re: Meeting folks on the i-net. Well, you actually 'prolly have more chance of finding out about people, and what makes one tick on the net than in most circumstances I.R.L. I'm not talking about 'chatting' for a night or two on I.R.C., but on forums over a period of months/years. Heck, there's some folk that I know pretty darn well by now, and no doubt, vice-versa. Some I know as much as I ever can, without actually meeting face-to-face. Some ring me up on occasion, exchange cards and letters etc., etc.

That can't be right surely, as the women who are in those internet relationships are most likely with guys? (just something I've noticed about marriages ;) )

Maybe you need another cup of java Lev, 4 guys to ever girl on the Internet Dating sites..........1 guy & 1 girl = Marriage, with a four to one ratio that leaves 3 guys left over..........yet it is the guys that always say "I wouldn't use a dating site" Sheesh ;) :D

First, a poll here doesn't necessarily represent the whole world, or even the whole internet world. Too small a sample, and most of us here are at least moderately geeky, which is not the norm.

Second, if 51% here think internet dating sucks, then obviously 49% don't think it sucks. THOSE guys would be more likely to use a dating service, so no, it's not the same guys.

Third, male or female, thinking it's plausable is not the same thing as signing up and actually doing it. The original question was on finding love online, which is very broad, not whether or not we planned to use a dating service, which is a narrow subset. Most of the conversation has been assuming just finding someone, via forums, chat, or whatever, not structured dating services.

Great points G.T. guess where I was going with my post, was the fact that on most Dating/Chat/Messenger sites the ratio of males to females is so one sided compared to actual society figures(over 4 males to 1 female)........yet it is the males on these same sites that say "Internet dating sucks" yet they flock there with the intent on finding someone and when they don't, they flame the vehicle that they were using......just doesn't compute for me anyway. Kinda like the guy who owns a Chevrolet always complaining that it's a hunk of junk and that he would never buy another..........yea that's right he goes out and buys another Chevrolet. Maybe it's the poison you know isn't as bad as the poison you don't syndrome.

(shrug) I suspect the grumblers are the true losers that can't get a date under ANY circumstances. Although 4 to 1 odds makes it a target rich environment for the gals, but slim pickings for the guys. And while dating services are getting to be more accepted, I still suspect that they are more heavily represented by those that are having trouble finding people in real life.

I agree with G.T. on this, however I work with two women that met their present husbands with an internet service and have been happily married for three years.:)

I have a few friends and acquaintances who meet people online on different dating forums and then if they find someone interesting they meet them in real life. Like going on a blind date, but not being set-up by someone else, I think they feel they have more control over it.

It is probably true that they have difficulties finding people in real life, but not always because they have difficulties connecting. I'd say many are a little bit older, past 35 at least. Maybe had a marriage, possibly kids, and are now alone. They don't want to go to bars and they feel a little "out of date" pardon my pun!

Where do we people above 25 and beyond the time when we found luring on nightclubs the best way to find interesting people turn now? We can't all bingo! :D

I met my current wife of 16 years though snail mail dating in the time before PCs and Internet are the thing as they are now.

Well, funny you should say that and not as strange as it might sound I had experienced that.

I met my current girlfriend (with whom I've been for 1,5 years now) in person first, then found out she also was at a forum I frequent.
So it's kind of the other way around, but I still chose option D.
