    Hi,

Sorry I didn't know which forum to post this in.

I am looking for a new internet security suite. I use Norton internet security 2006. I am happy with the program except that it seems to be a resource hog. I have heard that McAfee is just as bloated. Are all suites as bloated? I connect to the internet with a DSL connection. I have been told that modems and routers have built in firewalls so i would not need to have a software firewall. I have also read that hardware firewalls are unidirectional and software firewalls are bidirectional. I am not sure in this day and age that I would trust just a unidirectional firewall. I am thinking about going with PC-Cillin from Trend Micro. I would really like to hear some opinions on these issues. Thank you in advance for any advise.

Personally, I use AVG AntiVirus Free Edition, ZoneAlarm Firewall Free, and Spy Sweeper. Routers do have built in firewalls, however they are not quite good enough so a software firewall is recommended.

PC-Cillin is a very good suite, I used it years ago and was happy with it when I had it. It uses very little resources and does a great job when problems do occur.

I personally recommend Spy Sweeper for any computer on the internet simply because I think it's the best antispy program on the market, it's only $29.95 a year and you get unlimted updates and support. For a firewall I recommend ZoneAlarm Free simply because it uses very little resouces and does a great job. For an antivirus I personally recommend AVG AntiVirus free because it uses little resources, updates every other day and does a great job in detection and removal.

For a list of free programs available, see the thread below.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I also run antispyware utilities. I use ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and spyware blaster. Thanks for the info about PC-Cillin. Thanks again.

Spyware Blaster is a pretty good program, Spybot & Ad-aware are really useless because they focus mainly on cookies, mru's and minor infections, they don't really tackle the baddies we have today like Spy Sweeper does.

Ok. I will get Spy Sweeper. I was also wondering if anyone had an opinion about bitdefender internet security. I just went to their site and seems to be a solid program, I am just wondering if it is as resource hungry as norton.

I can't really judge Bit Defender because I have no experience with it, I do however know they have a very good database of malware.

If you want more opinions I would post in the Software Forum because this forum is for Malware Fighters only meaning no one but authorized personnel can post replies here.
