Ok lately i been finding out that my ISP might be Capping us soon if not now.

What do you think is better Throttling or Capping.

In my opinion they are basically the same thing in a sense but at lest with capping you will be able to use your full internet speed. But with throttling you will not be able to use your full speed.

They are both bad practices bye any ISP and there is nothing that really can not be done bye any one.

I my self is not sure how much Cap they are giving me.I think it is 250gigs a month. But still i am not sure.

I am not sure i understand when you say they are capping your internet????

Surely you have a contract with your ISP that states how much per month you have and that is binding.

My ISP has just informed me that they are upping the speed on 1st August this year and that is the third FREE upgrade i have had in 2 years.

Capping = no internet once cap is met.

Throttling = slow internet once cap is met.

    Slow > none.

In both cases you get full speeds until the cap limit. In both cases, your ISP TOS usually tell you what the limit is. Upgrading your plan usually upgrades your cap.

    Cable?

The cable providers here are generous about that. DSL...they rather push you off a cliff than help you out.

Capping is another forum of throttling but the difference in capping is that the ISP will allow a certain amount per month like 250gigs a month.or some thing like that.

I would rather have capping mainly for my isp they will charge an extra amount per month if i go over my limit. But i will still be able to keep my internet.

Some isp would probably shut your internet off.

There isn't enough competition out here in Canada and therefore the prices are high compared to other countries. That's how our caps are low and a lot of throttling going on by the ISP's. That's what people complain about. There are some small Co's (ISP's) who purchase bandwidth? or whatever it is from these major 2 leeches (monopolies) and sell them at a slightly lower cost to their clients.

Recently I read that internet service costs here are among the highest in the country (USA) and the State legislature is
apparently working to keep it that way.

Internet service providers are greedy and always looking for other ways to squeeze more out of consumers for a service that
    nearly everyone wants and/or needs.

Lobbyist are working to make access more restrictive.

Government wants to apply more taxes. What a GREAT way to stimulate a recovering economy.

The rest of us have to rely on legislative representatives to work in our behalf and "regulate" fairness.
