Ok, thanks for looking, heres the problem.

My internet is working, I'm writing this on my laptop and I am online on my Xbox. So the problem is not the connection itself.

My laptop and Xbox connect wirelessly without a hint of a problem. My Desktop is wired. The wireless adapter i have doesn't fit in my tower so I have no means of connecting it wirelessly.

However, my Windows 7 Desktop will not connect after several restarts and restarting the modem/router. I've changed the Ethernet cable and still nothing. In the notification in the bottom right of the screen i see the yellow triangle and it says 'No internet access'.

I turned it off last night and it was running and connected to the internet perfectly, as it has been for as long as i can remember. But today, I've woken up and put it on, and i am presented with this problem.

    Please help.
Fast if possible, I need my Desktop.

    Can try this -
Go to command line and do the following commands -

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

See if that does the trick.

Any updates to Windows or other software done automatically overnight?
Try a System Restore to a day or 2 ago.

    The commands did not work.

However the System Restore did. For now atleast. Fingers crossed.

I have the internet my Desktop again. Thank you so much.

But what does this mean? What happened to make me lose connection?

Sounds like some program or Windows itself may have been updated and caused a conflict.
Since you restored back a day or 2, that erased the change.

You could go into Event Viewer and try to track down what happened.
Or try to keep track of any updates that occur and see if a specific program/application has an effect.

I'm not sure what programs would've updated and caused this.

    But thanks for the help.

Today I turned my computer on again and encountered the same problem.

I have working internet. My Xbox connected but the Desktop had the yellow triangle in the notification area again.

I've done the System Restore and I have the internet on my Desktop again.

But it just seems very slow. Also, my McAfee Anti-virus can't update, it just say's an error has occurred.

How do I find out what is the source of this problem?

    Let's get some more information.
OS is win7 - Is it fully updated?
What security software besides McAfee are you running?
Can you try booting into Safe Mode with Networking when you have lost connection and see if that works? F8 at boot up.
Any specific information from network diagnostic?
Any indications in Event Viewer as to what may be the problem?

Today I have turned on my Desktop and it has an internet connection. Without me having to do anything, it was connected from startup.

    Windows 7 is fully updated.

The only other security software I had on here was Malwarebytes. Which I used to scan my pc in case there was some Malware causing the problem. But it found nothing.

I did open Event Viewer on Sunday, but I had no idea what I was looking at to be honest.

I'm not sure why the internet is connecting on it's own now when it wasn't the past couple of days, but I sure am glad it has.

Evidently there is a McAfee update from last week that causes this problem.
I would contact them to see about a fix.
