Wish me luck people! it's an entry level spot but I have plenty of experience so I'm hoping to make as much as I am now but would take a bit less just to get my foot in the door.

Web development spot that is near verbatim what my skillset is.
    me=giddy with excitement. :)

Thanks guys.. I'm really pumped for this. I checked out the company and I like what they do. It's right up my alley. Back end CMS stuff which I love to do even though it can be complicated and take a long time. They have canned goods and custom stuff too. I hope I get it. I did some salary research and it looks like a programmer 1 in the 25th percentile would run about 45k /yr. 75th percentile was 52k. Either way, it's more than what I'm making now ;)

It does sound promising. I applied for it on the 1st. Gave it a week or so and then emailed them yesterday with a follow up and another copy of the resume'. You know..formal stuff.. just making sure you got the resume'.... interested in your company....looking forward to meeting with you etc etc..

They replied within 5 minutes acknowleging my submission and called my house the same day to setup an interview. So yeah, I hope it goes well :)

Kodo - here's some tips. What not to say on your application:

"I have lurnt Word Perfect 6.0 computor and spreasheet progroms."

"Am a perfectionist and rarely if if ever forget details."

"Received a plague for Salesperson of the Year."

"Wholly responsible for two (2) failed financial institutions."

"Reason for leaving last job: maturity leave."

"Failed bar exam with relatively high grades."

"It's best for employers that I not work with people."

"Let's meet, so you can 'ooh' and 'aah' over my experience."

"I was working for my mom until she decided to move."

"Marital status: single. Unmarried. Unengaged. Uninvolved. No commitments."

"I have an excellent track record, although I am not a horse."

"I am loyal to my employer at all costs. Please feel free to respond to my resume on my office voice mail."

"My goal is to be a meteorologist. But since I possess no training in meteorology, I suppose I should try stock brokerage."

"I procrastinate, especially when the task is unpleasant."

"Personal interests: donating blood. Fourteen gallons so far."

"Instrumental in ruining entire operation for a Midwest chain store."

"Note: Please don't misconstrue my 14 jobs as 'job-hopping'. I have never quit a job."

    "Marital status: often. Children: various."

"The company made me a scapegoat, just like my three previous employers."

"Finished eighth in my class of ten."

"References: none. I've left a path of destruction behind me."

Interview went well. I'm very excited about this. It's a small company that is growing quite quickly and has some well known names for clients. Not sure about salary though. It's a risk for me, but it might be worth it in the end. They tossed me some tech questions and I think I handled them pretty well.

They asked for a code sample so it looks promising. I was asked what editor I choose for classic ASP and as it turned out , they use the same one, "Edit Plus" :) I got a thumbs up on that one. They are just getting into .NET so my basic experience in it is not deterimental. I have good vibes for the long haul. Might be a bit of a crunch in the beginning, but the bigger picture is what I'm concerned about.

  32. Publius

Congratulations and good luck. I took a job with a much smaller company than the one I had been previously working for when my wife and I moved last year. It was a little frustrating at first because not everything was up and running when I got here, so we seemed somewhat listless. But now that everything is going full steam and I was here to help get it to that point, things are running the way I like them to. Starting with a small company can be tough, but if you have the right support and input, it can make for a great work environment.

I could never leave MG.. but I might not be around as much during the day..

@G.T. Not sure how long it will take. I sent them a few code samples and a small app I built in VB.NET (desktop app) with explanations and what skill it demonstrates. We'll see how it goes.

    WAHAHAHAHAHA.....*sniffle*....

Okay, I work in Human Resources and my favorite answer when asked why the applicant quit his last job: he replied "they were mexican nuclear scientist working for Russia."

He worked for the Quickie-Mart. In Michigan.

.....and to answer your question: no, I didn't hire him....
