To use a tired old cliche: I think we may just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic now. Cyprus is only the beginning...

The lack of common budget sense in our gubment is appalling. Of course both of the major parties are guilty, so they toss debt on the next generation, not willing to make the hard and unpopular choices.

And sadly, I think it will continue until we are Cyprus. Heck, I hear Bill Maher may be thinking twice... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-nX5YsKHBQ

I love no longer being affiliated with any political party. One party seems to be sprinting towards the 'cliff', and the other one is jogging at a nice steady pace... to the same 'cliff'.

    Money is a drug.

    It should be illegal.

Ahh, OK. What would you replace it with? Barter? Total communism? What would motivate people to produce so they could sell and buy goods and services?

I would like responsibility when the gubment spends other people's money.

Barter is an excellent root function for money.

The problem we have is that the function of money has lost it's worth under a system of barter value which has become mostly non-existent.

Being rewarded with money, trips the same feedback systems in the brain as cocaine.

    May I modify your quote?

Under our government, debt has ceased to be a bad thing. Massive spending and borrowing has killed the dollar.

I actually use barter a lot. Love those free range chicken eggs I get. Those will make an omlette that a democrat and republican will shake hands on before they eat.

Massive money printing has become the addiction. IOW, print your way out of trouble.

ONE 1913 Dollar, will be worth 4 cents tomorrow...

Canada eliminated the penny in February. I.E.: cost is $4.96 and you pay $4.95 and if $4.98, you pay $5.00.
(rounded off to the nearest nickel)
Cost saving measure as it costs more to mint a penny than its worth. It'll take a while for these pennies to disappear though. Now wondering how many peeps will donate nickels ($0.05) in those donation boxes on the store counters.

EDIT: Credit cards excluded from above.

As far as I am concerned, we could dump the penny and nickel. Heck, I can't think of anything you can buy with either. Well, maybe a some of those 1913 dollars. :-D
