Purchase a new computer or repair?
History on my Dell Model 4300 Demission: Have been working very effiently for years. Recently added a program "Dragon Preminum"...after installation the computer gave me a message "not enough memory". In solving this, I purchased memory stick in order to increase memory to 1 gig.
Continued to operate okay for days.
Until now...currently in a shop, dignosed as needing a systems board/mother broad.
I can locate a motherboard but there seems to be no guarantee plus added installation cost.

Hi

How much have they quoted you on a new motherboard and the repair cost? as this can be expensive and the best course maybe a new PC.

But if you do go the route of a new PC, do get your old one back.

The Dimension 4300 uses a proprietary motherboard, so a replacement will likely have to come from another 4300. However, your case is EXACTLY the same as many other Dells, such as the 4400, 4500, 4550, 8300, and several optiplex models. You can use ANY of these other motherboards without problem, as long as you also get the motherboard tray for it

Looks like the cheapest is the 4300 @ about $55 (US).

If I have my searching correct, that computer is at least 10 years old.
IMHO, rather than spend $55 on fixing up an old computer, save it and put it towards a new computer.

Plodr I agree with you in that I would personally rather buy a new PC rather than fix a broken one as while you may change one part others may start to fail thus costing more over the long term.

{I have loads of parts lying around these days, just dug out 7 HDDs of various types, may start using them as backup drives for main PC as I have a HDD docking port}

But depends on disposable funds for you oms and if you wish to go new or fix.
