Invalid IP address. . .

Hey, this is my first post here. . . nobody else seems to be able to help me with this, so I'm desperate. The other day I used the "ESET online virus scanner/remover" in safe mode with networking; it found a bunch of viruses and apparently removed them. I followed the instructions carefully and uninstalled the software as it said; now I can't connect to the internet. My wireless signal is there and strong but it says my IP address is invalid. It just lists some zeros for the address and is not able to renew it. I've tried several of the command prompts to reset and renew it and a "reconfig/all" thing and none of these has worked. It still says I have an invalid IP address and it just doesn't seem to be able to renew it. . . any suggestions? I have a Toshiba Satelite laptop with Windows XP, by the way. Somebody, please help!

A number of options spring to mind for me.
It is a number of years since i worked with XP but it should still work.

First line of defense is "system restore"
Also if you are using WiFi then connect to the router with a cable and try to reset it that way.
if both of those fail you could insert your OS CDVD and restart the pc then select it to "repair my computer"

I am sure some of our members who still work with XP will come in with other suggestions.

 

Boy is my face red. Guess in my panic I somehow convinced myself that something so simple as a system restore could possibly be the answer; did the trick though and I'm up and running again. Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone! good to know I've got a place where I can get some straightforward answers for this sort of stuff.
