Invisble Cursor in Email and Reply Boxes

I'm having a problem in some situations, in particular in my emails, where I can click to relocate my cursor, but I can't see it. I can guesstamate where I might be and figure out where I am with the backspace by deleting a couple of letters, but I can't see the cursor. I've read about this in several places in the internet. At one site, there's an instruction for Ubuntu (I have XP-pro though - not Ubuntu) in which there are instructions to edit two positions which look like the following:

I've also heard a Flash update might cause this.

If anyone knows how to fix this, I would be mighty grateful! It's driving me nuts.

You've probably already tried this, but if not, go to Start > Control Panel > Mouse Properties > Pointer Options > Uncheck "Hide pointer while typing" > Apply > OK.

 

As Caliban says- also in the mouse pointer options, tick the little box to show location of pointer when I press the control key-
This will give you a little watery circle when you press the control key, so that you can find it.

The problem went away, but I expect it will come back and I'll try both of those when it does.
