Invisible File In MSConfig

I have Win98se and regularly check my startup files in MSConfig. I didn't think anything about it until I came here and read the sticky thread for spyware.

I have an invisible startup file. I haven't unchecked it to see what it is, because I don't know if it's a necessary windows component. I am almost absolutely certain that this is NOT spyware.

Does anyone know how I can find out what this is and what it does?

 

When you say it is an invisible startup-item, does it mean that all the following columns are blank ?

-Startup Item
-Command
-Location

It could be that it is just an invalid registry-key. Have you tried to use Startup.CPL ?

 

Yes all columns are blank. I'm not sure what startup.cpl is or how to use it.
Is it a windows 98 component?

 

Startup.CPl is a program used to configure which programs run when your computer starts up you can dl that here at MG Startup CPL 2.8

 

Ok I got it, Thanks! I'm still not sure what it is, but I unchecked it and nothing seems to have changed. It might be the left overs from an old program.

and regarding location :HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion
