    hello

my friend told me recently that Iobit Advanced Systemcare is really good. i'm considering getting it but i have Kaspersky Internet Security 2015, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, and CCleaner running on my system. Would it be ok to get that app with those other programs running? and my second question can anyone recommend a good driver updater for Windows 8.1? preferably one that doesn't require a monthly subscription?

Looking forward to your replies. :)

Advanced SystemCare is a great program but, only you can decide whether you really need it. It's available in 3 editions. Have a look at the comparison chart. And then download from MajorGeeks.

The publisher, IOBit, has a free program to update drivers - Driver Booster. But, take care! Don't update drivers for the sake of updating. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Both Advanced SystemCare and Driver Booster are on the list MajorGeeks Top Freeware Picks.

Unless something has stopped working forget altogether about updating drivers. Installing new drivers in any other circumstances will at some point cause problems you did not have previously.

ASC and other tune-up programs are another potential source of problems if you use the more advanced features. ASC earned the honour of being the only piece of software that had ever brought my Win 7 to its knees.

Why do you feel you need either of these programs? Is your computer not running well?

It is much better to do your own cleaning and driver search (only if something is not working) than to let a program make lots of changes in one fell swoop to your system.
More harm than good comes from running programs like that.

Post the problem(s) you are having and someone will be around to help you fix it.

    hi everyone

thanks for the replies so far. the main reason i was interested in ASC and driver updater was that i was having trouble with fixing this problem with the driver marked: "Realtek 8185 Extensible 802.11b/g Wireless Device" under network adapters in device manager. it has a exclamation point on the icon for that driver. i tried the windows troubleshooting wizard but that did nothing. A month or two ago my router died and Verizon fios sent me a new one. but there was a recurring problem in network and sharing center where below the private network for my home (which says local area connection next to it) there was two local area connections (2 and 3 marked) for public network named unidentified network. it says no network access for those 2. fios said its still ok after trying to figure it out and that there's no need to worry. i have my doubts. im guessing the realtek driver has something to do with it. any ideas?

    thanks in advance. :)

Don't use Windows Troubleshooting to find a driver.
Go the the manufacturer of your computer.
The Realtek is probably a chipset/motherboard driver.
Look at the version you have installed then check to see if a newer version is offered.

    hi everyone

my bad, ive been busy with school that i forgot to reply here.
just checked the computer manufacturer's site and i looked up the driver for realtek and my version on my computer is more recent than the one on the site. keep in mind this is a discontinued model computer according to newegg. i believe i got this computer 2000 or maybe 2001. this computer still works and all but maybe sometime soon i'll have to shop for a new computer. can anyone tell me what a good brand for a desktop is? i don't want a gaming pc cause they're too much. i just want a desktop that will last a good couple of years.

thanks plodr and everyone else who helped me on this thread. but if anyone can answer my question id appreciate it. if this is the wrong section to ask that question please let me know.

hey guys. thanks for the replies. i have around a thousand saved so i should be able to find decent a computer at least. i have a case by rosewill that i bought several years ago. one of the reasons i bought it was the number of internal hdd's i can store in it. counting the os drive i have 5 alltogether. unfortunately the wires inside got messed up. and when i called rosewill they screwed up with the replacement parts. it didnt help that my warranty was expired. but i did find another rosewill case that matched mine so my cousin is gonna eventually come over and we gonna use it to replace the parts and wires from the new and put into the old i believe he said.when i was shopping on amazon and newegg i couldn't find that many cases that held the number of hdd's i have. i download a lot and archive them on the hdds either until im ready to burn them or until i don't need them on there anymore. that's when i back them up to my external hdds. sorry getting off topic lol

thanks again for your suggestions about how to look for a computer. i guess i wrote above to ask if you have any suggestions regarding getting a new computer down the line that can handle that storage. my cousin may be able to help me make a custom build from scratch id have to ask him. but next computer i get will definitely be a desktop cause they seem to be more powerful than a laptop. i mean i have ipad so that it does the job for me regarding a laptop.

im going to take a class eventually on how to fix and build computers. so maybe i can wait till then. plus i downloaded a video from youtube by newegg which shows you how to build a computer so that can help too.

thanks again guys for your input! if you guys have any more input please don't hesitate to post here. :)
