Ios User Buys Android

I needed an app that is only available on the android.
I bought a like new condition Samsung Galaxy Fame.
In the app there is an option to load image.
I assume from the sd card etc.

This is where my issues starts.
When i click on load image i see a message "SD card is not mounted".
I then proceed to format it on my pc.
The options i see are NTFS,FAT32 & EX FAT
When i try NTFS & EX FAT and check it on the phone i see sd card in storage but nothing happens when i select it.
If i format it to FAT32 then when i look on the phone i see UnMount SD card,Format SD card and also Total space/available.
So as the phones sees this where the others it didnt then i think FAT£" is correct.
Going back to the app i select load image and i see SD card is not mounted ?

Does it matter as there is no sim card yet in the phone ?
App works fine without it.

Please could you advise.
