Ip Address Loss

XP operating system with all updates.
Works great for a couple of days or maybe a week then can't get onto the internet (broadband).

Try repair - dialogue box states if the fault continues to occur contact your provider (they can't help) Re boot of computer seems to fix problem sometimes.

IP address just disappears. Last time it occured spoke to someone who said it was a fault with service pack 2. Did follow it up as system was ok at the time until just couldn't get back on - reformat!

Problem seems to be starting again - seems to get worse overtime.

What is the error message, verbatim?

Better, yet, give the error message when you do ipconfig /all from a cmd prompt.

 

Can you dumb this down for me!

Start>Run

type:

cmd

click OK.

At the cmd prompt, type:

ipconfig /all

Wait until its done working and post the error emssage, word for word. Scroll up and make sure you didn't miss anything, sometimes there is more than one.

At present everything is working fine - when this is so no error messages
