IP Address question

Hi guys this is a bit of a strange one.

A forum I frequent has a little problem.

A member has come on saying that another member had committed suicide and was asking for donations for flowers for the funeral, people started giving but one of the mods found that the member who had committed suicide had posted from the same IP as the guy asking for donation even though one of them was in England and the other was in the Channel Islands.

Could this be a strange coincidence or is it defiantly a scam?

 

Well I know that depending on what ISP you use and what Forum software it is that different people can show as having the same IP.

I used to have a Forum and I used Invision, it used to show the mods and Admins user IP's and anyone using AOL would often have the same IP's.

Whether it's a scam or not I cannot and don't want to say.

 

Cheers buddy, there are other things pointing to it being a scam, I'm not going to get into that here, I hope it is a scam as it is the better of the two scenarios.

 

Turns out it was a scam, luckily it got caught before he made any money.

Just for the record I didn't catch it some brilliant mods did, I just had suspicions.

I'm in the U.S. so geographically challenged. But was pretty sure that despite the idea it could be technically possible that the same provider was used by both locations it seemed virtually impossible that they would have the same exact IP address. But was not sure enough to weigh in on such a strange situation.
