Iphone 5s Charges Fast

I used a friends brick and my 5s charged fast
WHY?
The iPhone 5S supports charging at 5V @ 1 amp. That is 5W charging. Extremely slow
so how was it so fast?
my is on airplane mode when I charge it
only on his, old brick and frayed apple wire, it charged fast,,i dont know how much faster, I just know it was nearly dead when I put it onand chargerd to 95% within an hour
my usb brick +apple wire dont charge it that fast!
what happened?

 

Official Apple and endorsed cords have a regulator chip which controls the power flow into the phone. If your phone does not detect that chip, it will not charge. Some unofficial aftermarket cords have a chip that emulates that chip without actually controlling the amount of power flow into the phone. hmmmmmmmmm I only use apple cords or cords endorsed cords
i thought the cube(where I plug my USB cord int0) might make a difference....
