I Have a pretty common problem. My sister comes to me for every problem she has and I just can't help much. Her problem this time is that her Ipod battery is dying on her way to early after every charge. Is this a common problem? And is there a way to fix it?

    please help.
and thanks to all who read.

Sounds to me like she didn't charge it properly before she started using it; and/or that she's spent entirely too much time recharging it before the battery was drained, so it has been trained to expect a charge after not very much time. To the best of my knowledge, there's no way to fix that without getting a new battery and doing it right.

iPods use Lithium Ion batteries, and they don't suffer from memory problems, only nickel based batteries do.

Sounds like it's either faulty, or had it's day. Get it replaced.

Unfortunately, iPod batteries aren't user serviceable, but if you're handy, they aren't hard to replace.

You can buy kits with instructions (and there are numerous sites on the subject), but if it has warranty left, you will void it by opening the case.

Good to know, thanks! I don't have (nor am I interested in getting) an iPod, so I just assumed they were nickel. It's a good day when I learn something new! :)

today I saw a friend's ipod that had a battery symbol i hadn't seen before. We tried charging it and nothing was working. It then left some message saying the battery was completely used up. is this battery totally dead?

btw, this is my first post on Major Geeks....seems like an informative site for me. outside of my gadget and electronics obsessions, I also like watching sports and playing videogames if anyone talks about that. I live in dc, work in marketing, and just recently got engaged. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle, soliders!

If it can't be charged, then yes, it's probably had it.

    And welcome to MajorGeeks. :)
