    Hi
I just got a CRAB 2 Ransomware infection .It seems that at the moment I can do nothing (I am not going to pay) My restore points on win 7 were encrypted so of no use.
Can anyone tell me would software like Reboot Restore Rx or similar become infected and therefore of no use.
Any advice or help to find a solution appreciated.
for info I had malware bytes anti ransom installed.

Keep your eye on this page
    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...ed-with-new-crab-extension-and-other-changes/

to see if/when a decryption tool is released.

grandcrab is different from crab2, as I understand it.

It won't help now, but for the future, learn how to make images. It takes about 1/2 hour to be back with the computer the way it was and all you'd need to do is update the few things that were updated since the image was made.

    Hi TimW
I went to that site, My files all have the .CRAB extension so this tool will not work. although I did try the tool just in case..... I have given up trying to decrypt as I have most of my docs etc backed up elsewhere. However lots of my program files had infected files as well so several stopped working or had to be reinstalled so I did a backup copy then reinstalled my OS. I was thinking more on the lines of how to avoid the problem in future and wondered how effective reboot and restore software would be .
    Thanks

Stop opening phishing emails that may look legit, dont click on page advertisments from any site, dont fall for pop-ups asking you to update software or win free holidays, and learn how to stay safe on Facebook.

It is Crab2 ... not GrandCrab. It has also been a month since the last post. Doubt it is still an issue as the OP has probably reinstalled.
