Is AntiSpyware Soft Keeping Me Offline?

    Hi all,

My wife's laptop is sitting here in safe mode just fizzing with this frustrating little virus. I'm having two problems with fixing it.
(It's a Dell Latitude D520 running Windows XP 32-bit. It has McAfee version 8.0i which hasn't been updated in sixteen months. I ran the McAfee anyway, but it didn't help.)

    1. I heard that Malwarebytes can handle Antispyware Soft, so I downloaded a brand new Malewareytes on this computer (the one I'm typing on) and copied it onto a CD. The laptop give me "runtime error '0'" and then "runtime error'440'" When I select "run as Administrator," it tells me that it can't run Malwarebytes in safe mode. Is this true? Is there any way around it?

    2. I got through the first six steps of "READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide" (With the exception of restarting the laptop after checking the MSConfig. I've left it un-restarted in safe mode for now), but I can't do the cleaning procedures because I can't get online to download anything.
My wireless modem is connected and appears fine but I get the typical "This page cannot be displayed." in Internet Explorer and a similar message in Google Chrome (Err 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED)
I tried getting online with a direct connection with the exact same failure.

So, (1) is there a way to trick the laptop into letting me install and run my Malwarebytes disk?,
and (2) is it possible that Antispyware Soft is causing my modem to bug out?

    Thanks in advance.

Malware Bytes should run in safe mode but I have had it happen several times with different PC's that I have looked at that it could not run in safe mode.

What about SUPERantispyware, combofix and MGTools? If transferred to a CD or flashdrive via another PC/laptop can you then get them to run on the sick machine in safe mode? I need to see logs from MGTools at the very least before I can even begin to help you.

Just updating this in case the information helps someone else who has the AntiSpywareSoft virus.

SUPERAntiSpyware did the trick all by itself. I was able to run it in safe mode and it found the virus and quarantined it. However, with the virus in quarantine, the computer was still infected. I had to go to the quarantine list and delete it, then things were okay. I ran S.A.S. again in safe mode just to be sure. Then I was able to run in normal mode, get online and update McAfee. Things seem to be working so far.
    Thanks.

If you wish to post all of the requested logs for me then I can ensure no remnants are lurking, otherwise, if all is well, I can consider the thread closed. :)
