If you combine the two,you are what you love.

I dunno about being a geek but the forum's as a whole can be addictive.I came here looking for a little advice on my hard drive and similar to Dave that was over six years ago.

And I don't regret one minute of time I've spent or depending on thread, wasted.:-D

Thanks Dave and Rikky... I also find myself coming back everyday, whether I need help or not just to listen or talk to people I understand.
OK... back to work on my daughter's laptop..
    Peace, out.
    Later dudes and dudettes

Geek is a state of mind and a matter of intent, not ability, as far as I'm concerned.

If you enjoy tweaking, tinkering, repairing your own computer...that makes you a geek.

I think you're there just by being here and wanting to learn.:)

Dunno about it being contagious, but I can affirm it is genetic! I have raised two fine, geeky sons :major

. . . and have budding geek granddaughter (she can handle an iPhone better then her dad, lol).

nah never too old or young to achive geekness ;)

My neice whos 7 is a wizz on computers, well I did bring her and her sister up on computers from when they where babies, so they are used to a PC, but she is brilliant in MS Office, especially Word, Powerpoint and I noticed her use Excel a while back, dont think it was anything too formula based. She is also in computer club so a budding Geekette.

On the opposite side my mom is also getting to grips with computing and is pretty good these days and knows how to clean cookies and temps with Ccleaner also, I taught he well ;)

My dad is the same and the same age as bdelapp,he wouldn't try to use one as he had no need then when I showed him all the gardening and cooking forums and sites he became hooked.

BUT teaching my dad how to use a computer has to be one of the most frustrating and painstaking processes I've ever undergone:-D I can show him how to do something 10 times sometimes and it still doesn't sink in,its hard for me to understand why he isn't remembering what I'm telling him.

He says I lose my temper,I say he loses his temper and we end up bickering.:-D

One of the most fulfilling moments of my life was when I came in one day and my dad was just surfing the web,he'd turned it on himself, typed the password, opened firefox and started searching.:)

One small login for man,one giant leap for my dad:-D

Rikky, maybe he's better than he lets you think.
May just like your little "bickering" sessions.
You know, just to get the blood running.

I feel your pain Rikky mate and thats where I'm at with my dad, this week was a case in point, I have on th laptop I gave my parents my admin account and a user account for them, and as you'll appriciate they have a password to each account,

NOW comes the story, my mom has a strong password she can remember (again I taught her about passwords and using $$%"" as well as upper lower case and numbers), great you all say..... well and god love him for trying, my dad went online to set up an online account with the electricity provider, again wow suberb, but when he came downstairs all happy with himself, my mom said, mmmmm what password did you use for the online account, he said the same one as your computer, she groaned and said you never us the same passowrds for PC and online accounts its not good security.

    Hahahahhahahhaa what a geek!!! :major

Hardest thing to do is to try to teach someone who's major ability is to send any electronics into hysteria when they walk by them!! LOL

Oh, owwweeee, am I hearing that all of you might be closer to my grandkids age? ;)
Never the less, still a great place, even if I might have suits older than most of you. ;)
I certainly want to thank Sach2 most recently as he has worked OT helping me to attempt and repair a piece of crap HP el cheapo laptop our daughter bought for our grandkids.
Of course, that I recently discovered that my grandson may have spilled iced tea on it might explain a lot. :confused
I cannot say enough of Sach's help and patience with the old man here...
BTW... my first calculators were a slide rule and a Remington 99... no, it didn't require a hammer and chisel... :-D
So, see ya later dudes and dudettes..

So you either own suits made from orange courderoy, or your grandkids are in their early thirties? I'm hoping for the latter, since 70's suits were just horrible. :p

Hi, I came here over 7 years ago, and am on nearly every day. I found a great program to store and access tips, info and any stuff I am interested in, called ZuluPad at http://www.gersic.com/zulupad/
Any subject, about any aspect of your life, is able to be stored in ZuluPad.
I have over 1 meg of Info stored in my Zulupad "database" ranging from A (Abbreviations) to Z(ZuluPad). :-D

One point I would stress however, is to keep/backup your ZuluPad info every time you add to it, and keep at least a second copy on an external storage device. USB memory stick and/or External Hard drive as the info becomes more valuable every time you add to it.

    Regards,

    Bazza
