    Hi all.
    My desktop is playing up.

    XP Home
    K7NF2-RAID Mobo,
    Ath xp 3200+ @2.2Ghz
    1024mb RAM,
    NVIDIA GeForce 6600,
    Seagate 160gb HD

When it boots it runs fine until I turn it off, then sometimes it doesn't boot at all.
A moment ago it crashed while i was messing with a portable hdd.
I had to switch off via the big button.
Since then I can't get it to boot at all.
It tries as i've watched the cpu fan trying to spin!!
I've tried a different psu but it did the same thing, span the cpu and cooler fan slowly.
I've taken most stuff out and give it a good clean but to no avail.
It's getting on a bit but I would like to save it if it is something relatively simple.
Could it be a failing cmos battery?
    Any ideas welcome.

Looked up cmos. Not looking likely.
Just tried a new lead, same thing, cpu fan spinning slowly.
I noticed the fan keeps going but real slow.
It only stops if I stop it with a pencil??

If you haven't had any time lost as a symptom, then I doubt it's the CMOS either though but it is a 6 year old board or more which puts the battery on the suspect list. The fans will spin slowly as there is no heat generated from the CPU, either that or it's gummed up. It should still boot though, for a little while at least if the fan is the issue.

    auggie,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Found the cause (I think).
I had recently added a usb 2 pci card.
I have it linked to a powered usd Tevion hub on my desk.
I found a thread that suggested unplugging everything including the power lead and holding the power button in for 30 seconds.
I did it and low and behold it booted.
I plugged everything back in and it wouldn't boot so I repeated the process plugging one thing in at a time and re booting.
When I came to plugging the hub back into the pci card it wouldn't boot and I had to do the 30 second thing again to get everything to work.
I have several other things plugged into the new card and have no issues it is just when I plug in the hub yet it worked fine for a few days?
I'm going to see how it goes but I would still be interested as to why this has happened.
    Cheers.

When you say powered, do you mean the hub has its own power supply or it takes power from USB?

It has its own power supply.
It is a usb2 combo, having sd card slots etc as well as usb ports.
