Is It Possible There Might Be A Virus Or Malware Preventing Links From Google Searches From Working?

I did a Google search for MajorGeeks, and none of the results would take me anywhere at all. Nothing happened when I clicked them.

Also, when I was doing the "Read Me and Run Me first" procedure, I was trying to do searches for alternate sites to download the software required (because I was trying to download them on a Linux PC that would not allow me to download any Windows exe files, so I needed them in zip files that would fool Linux), and my Google searches for Malwarebytes, RogueKiller, Hitman, MGTools, etc. would not take me anywhere.

I had to go to sites that reviewed the sites and software, and click the links there. Since then, I've saved them all as favorites, so I can find them easily again. But I've never encountered this problem before.

I am getting help in the other malware forum, but I just wondered if this might be a separate issue.

Looking at your other thread, I assume that the problem in on a Windows 7 computer. (We are currently using four Windows 7 computers in our home). None of our computers have a problem clicking on google search results and ending up at a site.

    What browsers have you tried?

Actually, since I've been having problems with my Windows 7 laptop, and one of those problems is unpredictable and unreliable Wifi where I can't be sure how long my internet connection will last, I've been checking this site on my elderly father's Wow! Computer for seniors. Its OS is Linux based, so I thought maybe fewer hackers would want to bother to learn it just to mess with it. And it just happened again.

As to which browsers I've used, that's hard to say. The Wow! computer is designed so that seniors can't delve into the operating system at all, so they couldn't accidentally delete anything. The browser (whatever it is) is built right into the operating system and there's no logo or name anywhere in the browser window. It's also set up so that users can't open more than one tab at the same time for different websites, and users can't download any software at all, because it will bring up an error message that says it won't work on this computer. It wouldn't even let me download Linux based software. All I can download are .zip files and PDF ebooks. Though I can print web pages to PDF so I can save them to a thumb drive to bring over to my laptop. It's a strange little computer, but it works okay for what it is and it comes in handy.

I have since run into similar problems on the Windows laptop with Firefox. I normally use Chrome and it seems to work fine. I tried using Firefox again this morning and the whole window camp up blank. I couldn't get to any sites at all, even though the wifi seemed to be working. I've also used Internet Explorer; it seemed to work ok a few days ago. The only one that I experienced the problem with was Firefox.

That computer for seniors is a custom-skinned version of Tiny Core Linux.
You can't expect a specially designed device, like this, to operate like a Windows computer would.

Thanks. I never knew what version Linux it might be. I couldn't find the information anywhere.
I don't really expect it to behave like a Windows computer. But clicking the links on Google searches on this computer has always behaved exactly the same for me on the Wow as on Windows or even on Macs. This is a new problem that has never happened before. And it seems to have spread somewhat to my Windows laptop.

That's why I thought if someone has been able to take control of my laptop through the Wifi, I thought they might be able to use the wifi to somehow access the Wow computer through the network (although the Wow is connected directly to the router and doesn't use wifi) and somehow hack it to try to prevent me from finding help online to deal with whatever they're doing to the laptop.

Lets go back to the beginning. You got to MG's. You don't need to search for the malware tools as they are posted here in the malware forum. If you can't download any software, at all, then you must find a friend or internet cafe to download and transfer to your computer. One thing that some malware may not recognize is Farbar:

Please download the latest version of FRST the below link.
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: Make sure you download the proper version ( 32 bit or 64 bit ) for your PC. Only one will run, the correct one. So it you make a mistake and download the wrong one, go back and get the other.
    • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
    • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

If you are able to download and run....please start a NEW thread in the Malware forum.

The OP is not using a Windows computer. He is using a WOW device.

We're done here. He is trying to do something not possible on the device he is using.

My understanding was he was using the WOW computer to try to download tools to fix his win7 computer....sorry if I misunderstood.

Since you can't download on the WOW, he won't be able to fix Windows 7 using that device. He'll have to either try the Win 7 device or wait and get someone else to download on another computer for him.
