is MSN messenger safe ??

    My son wants to download MSN messenger is it safe ? He used to have it but he downloaded messenger plus which infected us with virtumonde if he put messenger back on but does not download messenger plus will it be ok.Is there any other advice to make it safer so we dont get malwear etc.

    My son is a typical teenager and I dont want him to download any more rubbish any advice will be welcome.

    Messenger Plus is infected, though you can opt out on install. You will find we do not list it here and even had a public argument with the author who felt telling people in a small line on install that it would install 3rd party software was fair game. We disagreed. Download from us, if its here, we tested it, if its not, there is usually a reason.

    MSN messenger is safe as are the others, ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, etc. The only risk is like other programs, make sure he knows not to accept attachments, or turn it off in option.
