I've followed the READ FIRST directions and run the following scans. I began this because I can't get into ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS under my account which is an admin account (I can only get in on the actual administrator account). Please help.

Go to Start>Run, type in "appwiz.cpl" (without the quotes) and click OK (or press Enter).

If the Add/Remove applet starts, then it's a problem with the shortcuts. The easiest and most immediate way to fix it is to go to C:\Windows\System32 folder, find the appwiz.cpl file and put a shortcut to it somewhere handy.

If it doesn't start, you can try replacing it with a new copy through System File Checker. Rather than running the whole SFC routine, you can go to Start>Run, type in "msconfig" (without the quotes), click OK and on the General tab, click the "Expand File" button. Tell it you want to extract appwiz.cpl, tell it to extract it from either C:\I386 or your XP CD (which you'll need to put in the CD drive) and tell it to extract it to C:\Windows\System32.

    Tell me what happens.

It wouldn't start. I followed your instructions. A window popped up saying the 'restore from' file of C:\I386 does not exist. I'm afraid I don't have access to the cd that came with the computer.

Also, I'm running off of Windows XP Professional Version 2002.

Do you have the same problem in other user accounts?
Have you done a system restore?
Is this the only problem that you have?

Other user accounts seem fine. I have not done a system restore yet. My comp. was also acting very slow. This has gotten better after running ad-aware and spybot.

Please do the Read and RUn First sticky on the troubled account and attach the logs when done.:)
