    Hi there,

I have been going to a website which users can just type any name to log in and chat. There is no need for a person to have a log-in that is consistent.

Somehow, some of the users there know which country i am in. I have heard some of them refer to a ninja ip scanner or similar software? that even tracks i.p behind proxy's and other i.p changing software to a p.c :confused

I am of the understanding that if someone has your i.p they can do nasty things to your p.c.

I am interested to know how these people know where i am, and what kind of software do they use? what is this type of software called or known as, also how they know its me when i log in.

Can anyone tell me of a great freeware app that stops these people from fingering me as I have concerns for my data

A simple solution is not to go to this site, but i have made some good friends there.

My anti-virus and operating system software is all up to date.

Can any kind soul, please advise on how to protect myself and data, as some people from this chat room know where i am.

I want to prevent and protect my ip from being discovered even from behind a proxy server, and other i.p hiding software ( which i am not using)... by this type of software.

I would really appreciate help with this one. I am a little bit geek, but not for this kind of thing.

Thank you, in advance, for your help :wave

The only thing your IP address is telling people is who your ISP is.
You can check this by doing a search on your IP address:
    121.90.33.188

    Thanks for the inpt Tim

However research leed's me to believe that with this information they can track your location, and country and also using gprs? or other settings a potential hacker can also find you, using something like google maps.

I have been learning more on this subject, some of the ip snooping software i have seen quite advanced. and has these features built in...that shows the location of an i.p..or is it just the provider, or am i just way of base here.

thanks to Pt btw for the confirmation lol :wave :p :-D

    thanks :)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Really can't see where you'd have to worry if you used something like Hide My ***! - let the proxy server handle the ninja. A step further would be their VPN Pro version.

    Hi

As Tim mentioned in the main most will get your country in tracing an IP address but your physical house is alot harder as an IP trace will hit the ISPs server location and not your home, also as ISP use same IP for many users then who are they going to find, would need alot more info to go off.

Your IP address can also change on each logon to the internet, some ISPs have this depending on what system you are using, as you maybe using a dynamic ip over a static one.

GPRS is another thing, its mobile data (General Packet Radio Service) and indeed this can be traced, spooky as it seems via GPRS and GPS thats built into many phones, but only if enabled, using the likes of Google Lattitude, I have this on my phone, and ist scarily accurate, have it turned off in the main unless in a new location on business, then friends and family can see where I am.

the only real way to physically locate you is to have your MAC address. However, MAC addresses do not pass through your router so finding this information out can be quite difficult, unless you connect to someone else's network by chance. If you are using proxy's then you should use a program called PROXYWAY. It will "spoof" your ip address while you are "hopping" proxy's.
