is my modem dead?

juno and netzero stopped working about 3 months back (other thread). i've tried all sorts of things, including uninstalling and reinstalling the dialer softwares and reinstalling/rolling back/updating modem driver. a separate juno/nz "diagnostic tool" indeed reports that my modem driver is out of date.

windows, meanwhile, says that it's up to date. actually, it says this even when using the default driver that windows slaps on it (2008) or the driver which shipped with the modem (2009). they're actually BOTH out of date, but no matter, the modem has been swimming along fine until now with either/both.

in any case, doing an update now to the current driver (2012) doesn't solve anything. juno/nz still reports my modem driver needs an update; windows reports it does not.

i had reason to believe it was NOT a hardware problem (i.e. fried modem), but now i'm wondering -- what else would cause 2 diff diagnostics to give such conflicting assessments?

what next? i dunno what else i can do to appease juno/nz if windows itself says everything is current.

    conexant filemateCX, btw.

correction: when i click "update driver", it reverts to the 2008 one! i dunno where i got that 2012 from.

i'm sure there's more recent, but i'm not even clear how to find them. i google "driver" and "drivers" with the modem name/model and i get all sorts of forums and questionable "sources". i wanted to try wintec itself, but i'm not seeing the page.

honestly, i thought "update driver" was an automatic thing, just by clicking on that "properties" link (alas, but it asks me FROM WHERE....).

how about these? will one of these do the trick?

i'd like to have the setup/exe files like that, as opposed to updating it in place online (since i may not get back online to RE-update if it fails).

and what's the diff between the first 3? i'm not seeing it?

I believe what you are attempting is to update the driver to fix the problem that the modem is no longer working.

As the modem stopped working whilst you had a working driver installed I doubt that is the problem.

At this point, can we take some more information from you to attempt other avenues to fix the problem?

First, do you receive any error messages? What are the exact symptoms? What diagnostics have you already performed?

    Thanks!
