Is spoolsv.exe spyware ?

I am having printer problems and during my investigation I discovered that "spoolsv.exe" is a possible spyware infection. Well, according to this site it states that this particular background task is possibly a trojan. http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/spoolsv/

And then it goes on to assigne it a security risk of "." So - what is the verdict on "spoolsv.exe?"

 

It's legit, it's part of the Spooler Service which is responsible for managing spooled print/fax jobs. By default the file is located...C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe

However, there have been some reports that a spoof file will appear as this.

Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to get an idea if it were indeed possible that spoolsv was a potential threat before I went and did the song and dance. I guess I gotta it!

I guess I should ask one more thing - spoolsv is trying to access the internet. Is that a bad thing? Of course I am not letting it.

If the file is in the System32 directory the file is ok, but I dont think there is any reason for it needing internet access.

Have you confirmed that this is the location of this file?
