Is System Restore needed for Data & Image Partitions?

Windows XP automatically turns ON system restore for all drives and partitions.

So I'm wondering if there is any advantage to having it monitor individual partitions
that are used only for backup copies and drive / partition images as well as
    data only partitions.

I currently have those configured for 3% to 5% of disk space for system restore monitoring.

Since there aren't any System Files on those partitions, I'm wondering if that is needed
or if system restore can be turned OFF for those partitions. :confused
