Hey guys have an electrician coming into my house tomorrow to do the wiring he is charging $49.95 for cat6. He said the cable is UL rated and up to 1Gbps transfer rates. Is the cat6 worth? Would I need cat6 with hight speeds?

if he does cat5e cheaper, you could go with that. its still rated for gig transfer speeds. you should go with 5e or 6 though just to keep up with the newer tech...

I would go with the cat6. The difference in price should be minor but the speed capabilities of cat6 is better by something like 15% then cat5e. I don't recall the exact numbers but there is a difference. If the wiring is inside the wall, cat6 makes the most sense rather then needing to upgrade the line in a year or two when the DOCSIS 3.0 system gets in full swing with gigabit speed over the internet.
