Is there a large font virus?

No, I haven't yet. Mom & dad had about 7 versions of AOL on this pc, much to my dismay. I'm thrilled to finally uninstall them, but I want to make sure I save anything personal of theirs while I do it. It might take a bit of time; may not.

No, a-squared isn't a firewall; but it does have a background guard. Try disabling that.

 

Not really, if you're on a broadband connection you really don't need it.

 

OK, I disabled a-squared, and of course I'm now using the affected pc to write this, since it connects just fine. Everything is fine, in fact, except the big fonts in the search buttons & password boxes. For instance, as I type this, everything looks normal except the Post Quick Reply and Go Advanced buttons have huge words.

I'm going to uninstall AOL right now...

 

OK, AOL is gone for good.

I've gone into display properties and messed around with the various settings (as I've done about a million times now), but nothing will change these big fonts.

 

Try uninstalling Java and then reinstall.

 

Which one?

(I was going to attach a little picture here, but when I click Manage Attachments, I can see this whole window gets de-selected, but no other window pops up for me to choose an attachment.)

Anyway, there are 3 Java Runtime Environments and one J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update. Remove 'em all?

 

Remove all the Java Runtime Environments and leave the J2SE Runtime alone.

 

There was a Java Web Start, too, and I left it alone. I uninstalled the 3 javas, and will reinstall the latest one from their site now.

 

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 is the latest.

 

OK, that's the one I just successfully installed. And I still have the big fonts.

I've noticed that when I click view, encoding, and user-defined, ALL the fonts on a page (cnn homepage) get big. They match the word "search" on the search button. And also, don't you think it's strange that even though I always have text size in IE set to smallest, the text appears quite normally? Except for the few freak large words, that is. It's as if all the text sizes from smallest to largest were somehow knocked up a notch or two. Smallest is actually medium, largest is massive, etc. Smallest on any other pc is really, really small, at least in my experience. But here it's just right.

 

Check Accessibility Options and make sure something isn't enabled that shouldn't be.
