Is there a W7 Compatible Firewall to Replace Sygate?

I'm wondering if anyone here knows. I have just installed and then uninstalled 5 different firewall apps. And none of them will simply tell me any process that's trying to connect to the internet and then gove me the option to allow or block it..

They all are like nannies, designed to know best. WTF.

The reason I still used my ancient version of Sygate was it had a simple function: when a process it didn't have a rule for tried to make an outbound connection, an alert would pop up giving me the option toe either let it pass or block it. This included any process.

I certainly understand the need to simplify firewalls for old people and such. But even ZA now lets some processes pass without my permission.

So, if anybody knows, is there a decent firewall that will alert me to ANY process trying to access the internet, will provide the option to block or allow the connection, and is compatible with Windows 7?

 

You could try Private Firewall, I've been using it almost exclusively on W7 (first x86, now x64) for some time now, it's been pretty talkative for me but not so much it that it becomes annoying, it configures quite well.

PC Tools Firewall Plus (free but upgradable to Pro) does all you want and more.Traffic in and out is monitored and the GUI is simple! Go for it! :cool

Not sure what is happening with PC Tools Firewall Plus Free which is still available at Major Geeks.
I was Not able to locate the software at the PC Tools site

I am currently using version 7.0.0.123

Using the Smart Update feature which is part of the software, I received the following message: rolleyes

There is a button for "Renew PC Tools Firewall Plus now!"

Without an existing license code, Renewal is Not possible.

Looks like I will be switching to Private Firewall.

For Windows 7, there is also TinyWall which is free.
