    Aloha!!

It's been a couple of years (ha ha more like 9 years) since my last big problem. Here's the latest that I can't figure out on my own and am desperately in need of your help.

    I now have a Dell Inc. Inspiron 3558 , running Windows 10 Home (x64) Version 1703 (build 15063.413).

Problem is that I have lost the CD/DVD capability. The drive doesn't show-up in the Device Manager. This occurred after I installed and used WINX DVD COPY PRO once. The second time I used the software, I lost the capability.

    I tried on-line fixes:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...0/c19eb466-64ed-4392-88e0-66b8e9775c41?auth=1
    and looked at the

I then noticed that the majorgeeks suggested "fix" doesn't include Win10. Is there an updated version of the "fix"?

    Much Mahalos.

Looking at the specs for that Dell Inspiron 3558 all can find is that it came pre-installed with Windows 10 64 bit - you can confirm if that is correct.
Therefore fixes for earlier OSs wouldn't apply.

I suggest you go to the Dell Support site here and input your DELL SERVICE TAG and check if the driver you currently have for the optical drive are correct.

The SERVICE TAG is on a sticker on the laptop, on your purchase documentation, or you can find it via Command Prompt using this guide:

Thank you for the insight to check the manufacturer's support site.

I used their DELL System Detect which ran a relatively quick diagnostics of the system. After I downloaded and installed a couple of drivers, the DVD drive is now showing on the Device Manager as installed and working properly.

I will attempt to use the WINX DVD COPY PRO again to burn a DVD - if I lose DVD capability I am guessing it is the Freeware that is messing up my system.

    Thanks again.

    You're welcome.

For burning CDs I have always found CDBurnerxp freeware program excellent. Works fine on Win 10 - never causes any system problem.
