I'm working with a Dell Dimension 4600 Series. Windows XP. I would like to know if it's at all possible to download a streaming radio program off the internet. Download it such that I can copy it onto a cd and listen to it in my car. First, is it legal and secondly is it possible.
thanks.

Making a personal copy. For back up purposes or just in the privacy of your own home use. I have this to say.

Assume you're violating somone's copyright when ever you make a copy of something you didn't do yourself, because you are.

Every football game I've ever watched has a statement in there somewhere that sounds like this. Allow me to paraphrase, "Any rebroadcast without the express, written consent of the NFL and what ever channel is doing the game"

Look at your Music CD's, "Any unauthorized duplication".

Look at your DVD's, "Any public performance, other use or copying is strictly prohibited."

Key word here is "any".

Do people still do it, yes, is it legal, no.

Have you ever heard a radio program come right out and say, "Hey if your going to record this hit your button, mmmmmmm, now."

Do they care? Probably not.
Will they catch you? I doubt it.
Are they specifically looking for illegal copies? Probably but in a passive capacity.
Will they catch you riding in your car listening to a recorded version of it?
Depends on how many radio execs and DJ's you live by. It's a math thing and I hate math.

Hey guys,
I want to thank you all for your input on my question. I truly appreciate it. I do want to address the issue of copying the intellectual property of others for personal use. I have very mixed feelings on the subject and I can easily see the side of the Industry trying vainly to hold onto its cash cow even though they refuse to acknowledge the barn door is open. Instead of embracing the technology of the Internet and using their "little grey cells" to re-think their distribution methods they'd rather club their customers into submission. Be that as it may, why isn't everyone upset with the libraries of the world? These revered temples of learning are short-circuiting the system such that I can read someone's intellectual property and not pay him anything. Without the library I would be forced to "buy" that book I want to read. It's all a matter of how you look at the subject. It isn't so black and white. I subscribe to the National Public Radio station I listen to and I intend to copy (for my own personal use) one of its programs.
Again, many thanks for all your help. Major Geeks is a great site.
Be well and stay warm for the rest of the winter.
