Is there any way to view data sent/received by all processes?

I would like to be able to detect any processes and programs which are doing the wrong thing and also see how much of our data allowance each child is consuming.
Is there any way of monitoring and logging how much data each process sends and receives over Internet?
Ideally you could see how much data each thing had used in last 1-10 minutes and also in the last week or two. (And also how much each windows User account has used in that time!)
It should theoretically be possible to keep a count of the number of bytes sent and received, where they went, and who was responsible, (although I presume any self-respecting malware would have a mechanism to hide or deflect its behaviour).

IMO, your best bet is an Asus Black Diamond style router. You can not only monitor network usage, you can limit user time limits on the network. This is especially useful with "minors" on a home network.

Unless someone has a differing opinion, it has one of the best network monitoring software suites out there.

    Anyone beg to differ?

Thanks. But are there some software options?
You're talking about buying a replacement router, which I'd rather not, and the limit is on user times, not user bandwidth which is my concern.
Also, user monitoring isn't my primary focus - I'm more concerned about identifying programs which access the internet without my permission. Then I can research them and find out if they're necessary/evil and maybe even detect if I've been hacked/hijacked. So I'm after hard stats (live and long term) against processes and programs (across all users), and I presume that will need some specialised software.
    Thanks again.

Take a look at NetLimiter. It should meet most of your needs.

Thanks Earthling. NetLimiter looks like the goods. (Although I've only let it run and haven't stopped to check the data yet.)
To anyone reading, please do not follow the link from "AnnieCulvert" below. It is not helpful (unless you want to write the app yourself) and Norton blocked a mass attack from the site!
