Is there anything as simple as Win+P for Windows XP?

Any sort of 3rd party software that is free with this type of hotkey functionality will do.

I am having trouble finding something that works this well for windows XP

I'd like to be able to quickly switch from my primary monitor to my external display.

On any Win7 computer, the WinP shortcut allows you four choices.

On most WinXP laptops, there is a dedicated Fn + F# combo that allows you to switch between your primary and external display.

I would like to achieve this functionality on a WinXP desktop where I don't have a built-in Fn + F# combo, nor the Win7 WinP shortcut.

So you have two monitors hooked up to an XP desktop computer and you want to switch between them?

    LeoBloom...

If you read carefully this thread of about 8 short posts, I think it describes your situation:

The discussion is about UltraMon. Not free, but the last post indicates that the functionality you seek is available to you using UM...

I Googled unsuccessfully for reference to a freeware like UltraMon. Seems to be the best option at around $40...

I think you might have misunderstood me.

I do not wish to transfer one window from one monitor to the other. Instead, I wish to activate one monitor and deactivate another simultaneously.

Example. My second monitor is actually my television hooked up thru VGA. I'd like to watch a movie on it so I press a shortcut that activates my TV display and deactivates my primary monitor. This way, my primary monitor is not a distraction while I watch the movie on my TV display

At AtlBo - Thank you for the suggestion; it is the functionality I am looking for. Shame it is not built into XP like it is in Windows 7.

I think I might try to set up the official ATI control panel - it might give me access to these hotkeys for a similar effect.
