Is this a good overclocker?

I am using a compaq sr1630nx, you can see my specs below. I am using 2x256mb infineon RAM that came with the PC and 512mb of PNY optima pc3200. I have stock cooling and 1 case fan. my temps comke up as
CPU-30C idle 35Cload
AUX 47Cidle 63C load

I think AUX is an incorrect cpu reading, i am not sure. my MOBO is an ASUS and I have coolnquiet enabled.

 

Overclocking a Compaq ?? Normaly cant be done.... Thow you can google cpuFSB, SoftFSB and Clockgen.... And if your overclocking cool and quiet should be disabled....

Err scratch that its an ASUS mobo it might have setings in the bios... Prolly wont overclock to well thow Post exact specs if you can...

I loked at my BIOS and I cannot overclock from the BIOS, it displays my cpu temp as 34C so i think AUX is just some MOBO reading, maybe the south bridge or ati 400 chipset thing.

 

prolly cant be overclocked... But maybe ASUS used a clockgen that can be accessed in software....So you can try cpuFSB, SoftFSB or Clockgen.....

 

ok, i might try that, do you think it is safe to OC with stock cooling? I can't afford to fry anything, also how far can a 3500+ usually be pushed? and is the performance increase worth the danger? I am proabbly swapping my 3500+ for an X2 ithing a year or 2.probably after vista comes out.

 

If you cant afford to fry it, dont overclock it. Its that simple. Like if my desktop goes down i have my lappy to fall back on, letting my push my desktop harder then I whould otherwise. But the choice is yours.

 

i have a compaq presario 2.0ghz anthonxp 3000+ asus A7V8X-LA motherboard i am trying to overclock it is this possible my bios is shadowed how can i overclock my system

 

like ACE has been saying, try softFSB, clockgen, or cpuFSB
