Is this a salvage job?

Things are clearer in retrospect and I see myself for the twit I am... here's what I figure in a nutshell.

I'm playing a game which crashes out once a week. Not unusual. I don't check the event log and research the issue. Last night it happens twice. I get the Page_Fault_In_Non_Paged_Area blue screen. I just ran Spybot Search and Destroy and also Avira four days ago, but I run them again just in case. Nothing. Then I notice that the ZoneAlarm has shut itself off. The self-rebooting (to protect the system of course) has been carrying on every once in a while. ZoneAlarm won't start back up so I reinstall it and it's working. SpywareBlaster has stopped protecting against some random thing through Internet Explorer and ditto for about 57 things in Spybot S&D's immunity. Suspiciouser and supiciouser. Avira searches for rootkits finds a hidden object and thats the last I hear from the poor three week old system.

Now all I get it a continual reboot. The thing is kind enough to prompt with the the boot options menu (safe mode, etc.) all on its own but whatever I choose it reboots itself immediately. So with this handy backup computer I dig into Microsoft's support website where they suspect memory issues or either Msupd5.exe or Reloadmedude.exe They have handy instructions for removing the latter two (I suspect memory is not my issue here but I could be wrong) but you need to turn the frickin' thing on to do anything...sigh.

So is there ANYTHING I can do with this product of my idiocy? Replacing the hard drive work? Is there some magic trick you know? Is it only good for dust and heartache?

 

This message might not belong here... but since I think I've got the gist of the thread worked out and it's not relevant anymore I'd like to nix it but I don't see where I go about doing that. There is a wee message telling me that I have the ability to edit my posts but I can't even figure out where to do that now that it's in public view.
