Is it possible that spyware/adware can move from one computer to another if they share a router connection but no files are shared between the computers and file and printer sharing is disabled in internet connections. Can it move right through the router to the other computer???

Ok, maybe I did not explain this correctly. If one computer is infected with some adware and the other computer is not. If file sharing is disabled in internet connections and no files are shared between the computers, If both computers are on, while the infected computer sits idle and you are surfing the net with the non infected computer on sites that are not themselves infected, can the infection move from the infected computer to the other through the router. Say you click on a site with the non infected computer that would normally cause the popup to come up on the infected machine, but the site itself is not infected, will the infection travel through the router from the infected machine to the non infected machine and cause the popup to occur thus causing the noninfected machine to become infected.

Short answer, it is possible. If the malware is present and it is the correct type and finds a open vulrability on the clean machine, it would be possible. It depends on what type of malware is on the infected machine, what type of vulrabilities are on the clean machine, ect.

Best thing to do, clean the infected machine, secure both machines, then you are alot better/safer off

If your infected machine is online,

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).
