    I have a AMD 3000+ running at 48c.
With a gigabyte board kt600 chip
    2 80 gig hds
    gforce 4 fx 128

Will this heatsink and fan bring the tempdown any ?
Or rather are these any good.
    Advice please
    Coolermaster Jet7+ ACB-V83-U2 Cooler (Socket A) (HS-013-CM) [size=-1]
Cooler Master's newest product, JET 7, has finally arrived. The new and improved Jet blower derives from the successful Aero blower. The amazing Jet 7 comes with an incredible blower that provides high airflow with the same air pressure and rpm rating. On top of the improved blower, Cooler Master also matches the Jet blower with new high performance stacking fin heat sink. This allows more heat dissipation area. Thanks to Cooler Master's creative R&D team, the blower housing resembles a jet engine, especially with the bright LED lights placed on the front and the rear of the blower. You will not regret your purchase when you join the force with us and feel the vigor!

Sites I have been to say that this cooler is average(google search). I think you could put you money towards something better.

I agree. I had a CoolerMaster Areo7 on my 2600+ & I wasn't all that impressed. I actually took the blower & mounted it on another heatsink & my idle temp right now is 38c.

I have looked around all the forums and people recomend loads of different ones !
Like I say I have the 3000+ and would like to get it down a little...well a lot if pos
    It is at 48c now..Just Ihear of temps like 34 - 38c.
I am not sure how to install case fans (inlet and exhaust)
Or I would maybe try that.
While I am here can I ask you lot something ?
I am building a cheapie up for the kids..it has pure rubbish in it.
    and wait for it.....windows 98.....
Well it wont recognise the modem (dial out 56k) I have tried all the norm.
And downloaded loads of modem drivers with no avail.
It is not showing on com1 or com2.
Windows picks it up and after all the precedure of update driver and reinstall stuff it says "get out of here there is no modem in the pc"
It is doing my head in !
A simple thing like a modem.
AAAAAHHHHHHH will a large hammer do the trick ?
Any ideas will deserve a brownie point and a Huge gold star.
I have even flattened the hd 4 times.
The hardware when checked says ok.
If i run command prompt it even gives the wrong debug code.
    I hate it ,I do.
But if it keeps the kids happy and off my PC`s I`ll be happy.
    Thanks M8`s Steve

I do run xp.. all my pc`s have xp installed.
The one with 98 in it is one I have put together for the kids to play around on.
It is built up with old outdated components that I had lying around.
I did not want to buy another copy of xp to put in it as the pc is not worth it.
Sorry previous message a bit of a mix.
I was only asking advice on the modem prob.

    Thanks Steve

I agree... The Coolermaster Jet7 just looks pretty and that's all. The biggest concern is about air flow inside the case (IMHO). You need cool air to reach the CPU cooler for it to be effective, otherwise there isn't a CPU cooler in the world that will help.

Is there any links that will describe in simple terms how to install cooling fans ?
And what heatsink and fan would you recomend ? I am looking at loads on Ebay, and of course they are all supposed to be the best "according to the sellers".
    Any recomendations.....
    Thanks Steve

he means that it's not all that healthy to run a CPU around 80 ~ 85*C.

Yeah as AMD specifically say that running CPUs near their max operating temps for prolonged periods of time will decreace the lifespan of the CPU. I've got a 3000+ and it was running at around 85C with the heatsink put on improperly  oopsie... and I tested with Prime95 and got errors running at that temperature (no Overclock I might add), so it wasn't completley stable.

It's currently running around 60C ish.. which is a bit hot but as I'm not overclocking (I have no need to, and it also degrades performance for the apps I use, like Cakewalk: you get loads of dropout errors) and its completley stable after 24 hours of Prime95 testing. I'm happy with it. I've not had the chance to test stock cooling, but I would imagine that its not quite as efficient as my Aero 7+ HSF.

And my view is that stock is fine if you are working in a cool environment, with an average setup with no overclock, in an office for example. I wouldn't rate my Aero as extreme cooling, its just what I need for my computer to work in this environment:my hot room in an enclosed space, with lots of other heat generating parts in the PC.
