IMO ... as far as gaming and color quality, refresh rate you'd probably be better off with a CRT .. unless desk space is at a minimum or you have really sensitive eyes

Not to worried about gaming anymore, just don't have the time or care to anymore really. As far as space goes, I'd just rather have a flat panel so lugging around a CRT is not an issue anymore. Plus the CRT I have now has started flickering and there will be no pic sometimes when I boot up. with my luck it'll crap out soon, it's pretty old. I've noticed the difference with color quality but that's the least of my problems so I'm leaning towards getting this or another if there's any suggestions. Don't need any bigger than 19" but the cost is the thing.... Mayb $400 tops and that's pushing it.

8ms response time is awsome!but if your not into gaming why spend so much?A cheaper one will play movies just as good!and that 8 dead pixel return policy sucks!Scan where I get my stuff from in the UK let you return anything for any reason, you could have 7 dead pixels with that deal and have no option to return it!

Viewsonic monitors are good, but I'd agree with mcgriff, go with the Samsung.

However, if you go to Dell's Small Business website, you can get a P4 2.8 Ghz computer, a printer and a 17" LCD for $450. Pretty good deal. Or if you want a 19" LCD, it's $550. If you might be thinking about upgrading your computer, you can't beat it.

On both the newegg links it states

Dead Pixels Policy: Replacement or Refund for 8 or more DEAD PIXELS ONLY! for both the ViewSonic and Samsung.

I though Samsung had a no dead pixel full replacement warranty.

I wouldn't buy any LCD screen that didn't offer that.

8 or more, they have to be kidding!

Well I just called Samsung and they said full replacements for 15" = 7 or more dead pixels, 17" = 9 or more, and so on. Looks like the replacement is better under newegg's return policy for a monitor I would get. Maybe I'll try to get a monitor through my work's company discount.... I hadn't even thought about that :D

It's up to you but I wouldn't buy any LCD that didn't offer a no dead pixel warranty. (Samsung 19" do)

If they can't produce it correctly, it's not worth buying.

The 19" Samsungs do, at least here in Australia, as well as a couple of other brands.

Regardless, as I said I wouldn't consider one till they do.
