"Is this You" AIM Virus

Hey everybody,

I'm new to this forum, and it looks like everyone who posts here gets great manual help and suggestions, so I decided to sign up. I definitely need some help with this ridiculous AIM worm.

Basically what happened was: I recieved an instant message from a friend that said "Is this you?" followed by a link that seemed harmless enough, and strangely had my best friend's name in it... Something about "seansoccer." So, before my friend had time to warn me in IM about it, I clicked it.

Nothing happened right off the bat, but about two days later, I was swarmed by popups and windows telling me I need spyware protection. These come randomly at about 25 per minute. It's very annoying and minimizes my World of Warcraft wondow when I'm playing.

I have tried several other methods for removing this including many spyware doctor programs and the common remedy for it, the "AIMfix" or whatever... I suspect this is some sort of self-perpetuating type thing because it will go away for a few hours and then come back full force.

I just ran through the common fix posted here, and it seems to have limitted the popups, but I'm still getting them.

Attached is my HJT log. I fanyone could help me, either with a prgram or manual instructions, it woul dbe greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments. All the steps in this procedure must be followed exactly as written. Make sure you follow them all and also get HijackThis installed properly. I see at least one worm and remnants of a possible Look 2 Me infection. So it is really important that you complete all steps as more could be hidden.

- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
