Isn't there a law against this?

Ok, so I downloaded a program that the site led me to believe was freeware. Also the EULA didn't mention the word 'shareware.' (I always read the EULA to programs I've never used before, unless it's a game since they tend to use the 'stock' EULAs.) So I installed and launched it and it had this huge ugly button to pay $30 which the program is definitely not worth especially since it had the ugliest GUI I've ever seen, the kind of yellow that nearly sears your eyes out.

So I press Exit button. It popped up a dialog to enter my name and email to recieve updates (and presumably spam). The X was greyed out. I tried pressing OK but it told me to enter my email.

I pressed cancel and it went back to main window. I tried pressing the X on the main window and the same thing happened. So I killed the process and uninstalled it.

I used Revo Uninstaller and I noticed after the regular uninstaller went through, it left literally everything behind. It didn't delete a damn thing except for the start menu icons.

    Hi

Yes and No, depends how it was worded as many of these apps say "Free Download" doesnt mean its Freeware. Many sites word their applciations and the licence really close to meaning its free to use, sadly many of these are not based in countries that any law could do anything anyway, so double checking the whole site and the licencing is needed these days.

If the app seems too good to be true and the licencings is ambiguous then leave it alone and find another app, I tend never to deal with a software developer that doesnt list company HQ, Address or is one thats very known to the community.

Well, it's the type of program anyone could whip up in a few minutes, possibly even me (and I have limited programming skills.) Except I'm lazy. LOL
