Issue Accessing Files on Network

    Alright, here is my issue.

I have my house setup wirelessly. I use the Belkin Pre-N router. There are two PCs, one laptop. One PC and the laptop are my own, and the other PC is another family members. The PC and the laptop have the same Wireless Adapter, the Belkin Pre-N adapter. The PC has roughly 950GB of data, from games to music, movies, and anime. A lot of this data I've "shared" through a network on my internet.

Here is where the issue starts. The laptop can access the internet just fine, all three of the machines can access the internet with no issues at all. I can even access the files that I have shared that are on the PC, on the laptop....sorta. For whatever reason, there are a few files that are missing within each folder that I have shared. For instance, in one folder I have the first 3 songs of that particular CD missing. On a different folder, I have the first 3 episodes of a TV show missing. And this actually occurs fairly often, where it's the first 3 ___ missing from each folder. I can access all the other files just fine, view them and everything, but it's these first few files that are missing that irritates me.

Is there any type of troubleshoot that I can do? I've tried going off stuff that Microsoft has in their Troubleshoot but nothing helped. Has anyone else had this issue occur?

Both systems are running WinXP Pro. Both are on SP2. Updated and everything. Both of them are using the Sygate Firewall. The PC is running Pro while the laptop is running the free edition. I've set Advanced Rules to allow each of the computers to connect to each other without any hinderances.

I don't know what other kind of info is needed, but I'll gladly supply it if it'll help get this very irritating bug fixed.

Thanks for your help and time.
    ~Daniel

Went to the link and tried out everything.

It doesn't seem to really address the issue I have at hand.

I can connect to each computer and access files. It's just that some of the files appear to be "missing" when trying to access it the files from the laptop. Like I said, I don't know if it's just an error with the way I set things up, or the way the permissions are set up, I just know it's damned annoying to be missing the first 3 episodes or songs of a set.

I don't know the answer and I know it's the pits. I've never seen it where just the 1st 3 files were missing. I've had problems all the way back to Win2k with files mysteriously disappearing (when trying to access on the lan) while everything else was connected though. In some cases, just in case, I fixed it with one of the following.

Win 98/ME has trouble seeing certain long file names regardless of supposed fixes, but that doesn't sound like your issue.

The setting "allow offline file use" has hidden files for unknown, to me, reasons. Start > My Computer > tools > folder options.

The setting "enable fast user switching" has done it for unknown to me reasons. Control panel > user accounts.

I think that enabling offline use redirects something in the registry. I think that fast user switching disables saving settings including some locations. The combination of the two settings has made it worse.

In windows explorer, tools, folder options, view, Are the first three and very last box checked, especially the last one, allow simple file sharing?

OK, this was one step below worthless info, it's just "stuff" I've run into.
