Issues present after cleaning process

I followed the guide to cleaning my computer:
CCleaner (I run it almost everyday now)
got rid of some useless startup processes

I then ran Superantispyware, spybot, malwarebytes, combofix, and MGtools followed by defragment with diskkeeper lite.

I use Mozilla Firefox and when I initially ran into slow browsing is when I began that clean up process. I will attach the logs. I found a lot of issues and removed them. Since all of that, I haven't really noticed a difference. It still takes eons to load a page, especially ones with pictures. Trying to play a basic game online like Starcraft results in a lot of lag. I live on a university campus so I accept the network can be busy, but I haven't experience good internet speed here for awhile.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please run SUPERAntiSpyware and update to the current definitions and then run a new scan.

Also please run Malwarebytes and update to the current definitions and then run a new scan.

Is your copy of SpySweeper a paid version or free trial? And is it only the antispyware program? If it is only a trial progam, uninstall it now!

Your logs show things from Symantec but you are using AVG8. Let's clean this up which should help performance issues somewhat. Please run the below then reboot. After reboot run it one more time.

    Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT)

Now remove all EXE files from your Desktop except ComboFix. If you need/want those other files, save them somewhere else.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now download and run the new version of MGtools.exe

    Then attach the below logs:
    • new SUPERAntiSpyware log
    • new Malwarebytes log
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

My SpySweeper is a paid version but only the antispyware program. Which program should I keep?

I couldn't find this in the list. I think it's probably because I did the following awhile ago:

ccleaner --> tools --> startup --> disable quicktime.

When I ran ComboFix it failed to update. After when I checked the logs I realize the desktop was a shortcut to combofix.exe so it actually ran from a folder off of the desktop.

    I received a success message.

So far pages that used to take over a minute to load for me are popping up easily in seconds. Youtube videos are playing without constant lag for the first time in a year. So far, so good. Multi-tasking is actually feasible. I feel like I owe you something. Thank-you very much. I'll keep checking back for issues with my reply post.

There was one issue I forgot to talk about as I'm not sure how it relates to all of this.

But first, is there an edit function for this message board? I can't seem to find it if there is.

Anyways, I play Starcraft on battle.net (online multiplayer) and after several minutes into a game it becomes unplayable with harsh lag. Eventually it gets to the point where the lag screen pops up non-stop and I can't do anything. I've always thought it was just my laptop that can't handle an online game with four+ players, but I'm pretty sure my laptop is fit to run starcraft, being that the game was released in 1997 and I bought my laptop in 2006. Others around me with the same internet connection can play far superior games with no problems. Do you think it's a hardware issue? Could it be related to malware?

Any idea? Can I provide anymore information?

    thanks!

You cannot edit a message after a 5 minute timer expires.

It does not appear to be due to malware. I suggest that you do a short test without Spy Sweeper installed and see what happens. AVG8 already has an antispyware component and you are using a lot of resources to have both AVG8 and Spy Sweeper running. If uninstalling Spy Sweeper has no effect, uninstall AVG8 and see what happens. DO NOT remain in the unprotected mode for too long. It is just a test to see if they are impacting you. If this continues to be a problem after uninstalling these programs, reinstall your protection and post in the Games Forum.

As stated in the READ & RUN ME instructions, you should not be using either CCleaner of MSconfig to control startups. This is why what I asked you to fix no longer appears.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I've got a c:/QooBox which is related to combofix. Contains folders "quarentine", "testc", "test", some text files, and some VIDEO CD MOVIE files.

    What is this?

Did you run my final instructions? This will all be cleaned up when you finish those steps.
