Issues with Java and windows 8.1?

I don't really know how to describe this problem...

Java/flash (anything like that) tends to run poorly for me. I have reformatted my whole machine a couple of times just to fix the issue, and I think I might have a good idea now, what is causing the problem.

Right now, I can use youtube's 720p60fps mode (and higher) but I could not do that before, on my old install. This is before I 'installed' java, or done any updates to it. However, things on facebook, like videos, don't function. Probably because of the outdated plugin, I also can't use a chat website I used to go to a lot because it's not up to date...

However when I update it...everything kind of goes to crap, I get regular plugin crashes that require either a restart of my browser or a refresh of the website. I have had this problem on both computers that I have Windows 8 on, I think I even had it on the Windows 10 Technical Preview.

In short...if I don't update java/flash at all, there are no problems, and things are silky smooth. But if I update it, so im compatible with everything...Youtube becomes jerky, or I lose features entirely, or sites like Facebook die outright sometimes.

    Any ideas?

    Hi

Only thing that springs to mind at this moment as you have issues with online media is the bowser you are using so if using IE try Chrome or Firefox, and vice versa. Try disabling your security software as that maybe scanning the streaming media and causing slowness, so could try this in safe mode with networking as a test.

It happens with any browser I use, IE, Chrome, or firefox. It's also a fresh install of windows. I have no security, at least, nothing that's not standard.

Right now, things are fine, since I haven't done any java updates. But I know that when I do, it's going to screw things up, and has always screwed things up for me.

This problem really sucks because there is little to no information online about my problem.

Also, it's not slow. Every now and then, it literally locks up completely for like 15 seconds (non responsive) then Java will crash, and I'll have to refresh.

Do you mean Java or do you mean javascript? These are two unrelated things.

I don't have java installed on any computer. For most people, java is not needed.

Browsers shoot up javascript errors; not sure about Java errors because I haven't had it installed in several years.

It's likely javascript. The reason why I am just saying it's java...because I don't have ANY issues, until I do an update on it. Like videos on Facebook do not work right now, neither do some other websites, until I install the plugin. Once I install the plugin, everything kind of takes a crap, and starts having problems. Or maybe it's installed, but it's not updated. Not sure if windows 8.1 just has a basic version, or Firefox having a basic version pre-packaged.

Hence why I said Java/Flash earlier. Since nowadays I have a hard time telling a difference between them, since Youtube doesn't throw up any 'your plugin is out of date' alerts, but Facebook does it constantly, a lot of other sites are doing it too.

It sounds like you are installing garbage that overrides whats built into the browsers and seeing conflicts. Don't do that. Very few websites require java. Java applets haven't been cool for at least the last 5-7 years.

Youtube uses HTML5 to play, hence you see no errors. It can fallback on Flash for some videos, but its not longer the default mode. Facebook videos use Flash, not java. You should not be installing Flash with browsers like Chrome because it is built in. Firefox blows with media on the web, so there is that too. IE shouldn't need Flash installed either.

So, even though these sites specifically tell me I need this plugin, I don't? Okay. Then why don't they work properly without it. This problem arises almost instantly when I install it, it happened the last several times I did it, right after I install, even if it's only moments after a re-format.

and...the same at Adrynalyne. The ONLY plugin that doesn't come standard with firefox that I even have installed is Adblocker. The second I install what Facebook (or the other site) wants to run, suddenly everything that does use it, which for some reason Youtube seems to switch to when I do... turn into crap. And it's this way on my laptop, and my desktop, which my laptop has almost nothing installed on it.

Also I noted Windows 8.1 because I don't have this problem period on Windows 7. It only started showing up when I moved over to 8.1. On my older hardware and onto my new hardware. Same problem. Does Windows 8.1 have any weird incompatibility issues with certain versions of Java?

For now I installed Chrome. I haven't used it in a long time, because I was having some issues with it last time, I'll see how long this lasts. I apparently don't have any issues at all with any sites on just vanilla chrome right now. The only other reason why I may need 'java' now would be for Minecraft.

So defensive. It is not a java issue. Nothing about this is dealing with Java. Your not having this issue with other OSes is because they already had Flash installed.

This is what you saw in Firefox with Facebook:

I am concerned you are installing malicious plugins. If Facebook wants you to install Java, run away.

I apologize for being defensive. You guys are just trying to help. (haven't had a lot of sleep lately, please forgive me.) Chrome is running everything perfectly right now so I am just going to stick with that for now.

One day Flash will die out completely and we won't have to worry about this anymore.

Can you maybe explain to me why is it that everything breaks if I even install Java? I don't understand that really.

I couldn't tell you aside from the installer possibly breaking something inside the browser.
