Issues with SAS & MBAM not updating

Back in December I was saved by the Read & Run Me First sticky in the malware removal forum. Since then I've installed the programs on my wife's computer and work computer as well.

Just recently, Super AntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware both will not update. I can't recall what I could have messed with to have caused this. Spyware blaster and spybot S&D both update just fine.

I have checked the Windows Firewall and the two programs are on the exception list, but I have also attempted updating both programs with the firewall disabled with the same results.

On MBAM, the update window pops up and sticks at "Looking for <selected update mirror>". I have selected both malwarebytes.org and securitywonks.net and let them both sit for extended periods of time with no change in status.

On SAS, when I check for updates I instantly get a window that says "There was an error trying to retrieve definitions. Make sure your firewall is not blocking SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE from accessing the Internet."

I have also attempted to check for updates using the tray icon for SAS with no luck. A small window will flash up for a split second and then disappear with no further messages/etc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled current versions of the programs but I still get the same issue, with or without the firewall on.

I'm not sure where to begin, and from what I've Googled the last few days I can't seem to find anything. I did find one lead but the article indicated this could be something to do with "TDSSServ.sys" and instructed to check hidden non-plug and play devices in device manager. I did not find anything they listed as being a red flag.

Any input on this would help.

    Thanks!

Not knowing what version of each program you already have installed, try this:

Since you're already familiar with the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Now un-install your old versions > run CCleaner and re-boot --- then transfer the new versions plus their updated definitions to the problem pc. Now run the scanners.

Post back if any malware was found. Check to see if the problems updating continues with the latest versions.
