I just bought a sony vaio VPCEE31FX laptop yesterday, took it out of the box and set it up, everything went well, I get on it, and notice its running slow so I figured it was probably just the initial load, let it update and restarted to find that it was still running just as slow. I checked the system settings, it says "Installed memory (RAM): 3.00GB (763 usable)" i spent all day on live chat with support and with them not understanding my issue and some trying to get me to spend more money, I read some stuff online, and one thing I read is that re installing windows fixes it, is there any way to make the rest of my ram usable or should I try re installing windows? I really like this laptop, just want to get it running the best it can. Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi

What version of Windows 7 as in 32bit or 64bit is installed?

Could you take a screenshot of this page for me below in the attached thumbnails, to get to it just type resource into the Start Search box and you should see Resource Monitor list and click that. Just wish to gain an idea into ram usage.

As for slow PC well many OEM PCs like your come with all sorts of junk apps or apps that are not really needed that startup with the PC, so its good to run Decrapifier and then run this cleanup guide HERE

Before re-installing do try the above and also likely others will have some good steps to follow.

But if its a hardware issue then to be honest and with a new PC its worth an exchange to a new one as it may not be Windows causing the issue, but a motherboard or ram one.

It is 64 bit, and support told me to try taking out the ram and putting it back in but i dont really want to risk breaking something. the screenshot is below.

Hmm, 2GB of memory on a 64-bit Windows system does not sound good. That doesn't even meet the minimum system requirements.

It's 3GB, but the problem is the 2GB hardware reserved. Incorrect memory configuration from a quick Google.

Yes, 3GB. Sorry bout that. Yeah, the 2GB hardware reserved doesn't sound like shared video memory, but I can't for the life of me think of how one would free up that ram.

@BoneZ - it appears to be an incorrect or faulty memory configuration. You should waste no time returning it.

Just checked a Win 7 64bit system here with 3GB. Hardware reserved is just 9MB. It's almost certainly faulty.

Sounds faulty to me. If they suggested re-seating the RAM. Maybe you should try that first. :p
