    Hello everyone,

I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything a couple of weeks ago. After reinstalling all of my anti-virus, anti-spyware, regcleaner, etc, I did all my updates and ran all of my spyware and virus scans to test it all out. Yahoo! Anti-spy and found ISTbar and I have absolutely no idea how it got there, since literally all I had done is install everything and run Windows Update. I ran all of my other anit-spyware software (Adaware, Spybot S&D, AVG Anti-Spyware, HijackThis) and nothing bad was found. None of them found ISTbar or anything else. I elected to "remove" it through Yahoo! Anti-spy and it seemed to work.

I ran Anti-spy again today and it is there again. Since none of my other anti-spyware software seems to find anything wrong, and I can't seem to get rid of it on my own, I thought I'd try here. I'm attaching both my HijackThis logs (the one from right after my reformat and today's). I am a novice with that program and in my glancing through it, I didn't see anything that stood out to me, but I thought I'd ask here.

    Thanks for your assistance!

The tool can be found here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxIstbar.exe

Removing this adware component from the system will likely cause the program that installed it to not function as intended. The uninstaller generally identifies the programs that will not work after uninstallation.

    • The removal tool may terminate Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. It is recommended that users save their work and log out of these programs before running the removal tool.
    • The removal tool will not delete some harmless Temporary Internet files, which Adware.Istbar created, in C:\Documents and Setings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. These can be manually deleted using the following steps:
      1. Start Internet Explorer.
      2. Click Tools > Internet Options.
      3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, then click the Delete Files button.
      4. Check Delete all offline content, and then click OK.
    • The Removal tool will not reset any changes made to settings in Internet Explorer. To restore default settings in Internet Explorerit is necessary to perform the following actions:
      a. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
      b. Select Internet Options
      c. Select the Programs tab
      d. Click Reset Web Settings
      e. Click OK
      f. Exit Control Panel
