The "Search" function from my start menu, does not work, although it did up until a week ago. I even reinstalled to an earlier date, it worked for about one time, then stopped.
    What did I do ???????

Re-register Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll, see if that solves anything.

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Start, and then click Run.
    5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
    6. Click OK. Try the Search function.

I would start with Start, Run, and type in one of the following for the System File Checker Utility, probably the first or second option:
    (Scan Immediately) sfc /scannow
(Scan Once At Next Boot) sfc /scanonce
(Scan On Every Boot) sfc /scanboot
(Return to Default Setting) sfc /revert
    (Purge File Cache) sfc /purgecache
(Set Cache Size to size x) sfc /cachesize=x

    Hi

Whats your Windows version? ( guessing at XP for the below )

Have you installed any tweaking software like TweakXP etc? if so check their options for a disable Search and re-enable it.

Do you use the Classic Search or the Search Companion as in the puppy? if so try checking the settings http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307980

Run System File Checker as you may have corrupt file to do this click Start -> Run and type in sfc /scannow ( will need XP or OS CD )
