So the summer broke in Oregon last night and it got down into the 40's, and only mid 60's today. I am so freakin' cold! Time to break out the soup :)

Rain in Brum isn't so bad...you can always go to the Cabury's factory, watch chocolate get made and come out feeling soooooo much better that you don't care about the rain :p

And you need to keep warm with that back!

Now cuddle up in front of the fire, with an electric blanket behind your back, a toddy in your left hand and a good book in your right! :)

    Lev MajorGeek

Awesome! And are you going to personally deliver it to me? ;)

At Solange's advice, I have just turned my fan heater on max. Shivering sure isn't great for my back muscles right now.

I may deliver it in the form of a large snowball ;) but have to think of a quick escape route first :D

Thinking of muscle pains, you have anything in the US like Deepheat?

  12. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Yeah....you can get some convenient stick-on deepheat patches too, which are excellent. Don't make you smell all funny either :p

Snowballs on the Cotswolds at dawn, it is :D

@Matt...you should go...you pay about 8 quid to get in, but as you walk around they keeping giving you chocolate bars, and you get more in value than you paid to get in!!! Every woman's heaven, and considering your celebrity look-a-likes......

    muahahahaha ;)

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

My "new" (almost 5 years ago) house came with a gas fireplace, and I went "Hey, Great; all of the fun with none of the mess!". First time I turned it on and settled down in front of it was fun for 10 minutes. Then the carbon monoxide detector started to scream. Turns out is a NON-VENTED gas fireplace, and the instruction book warns that you must open a window at least an inch when running the fireplace, which totally negates it's usefulness in winter. Stupid design. Haven't used it since, although it still looks cute. :(

    Lev MajorGeek

Holy cow! Good job you had a CO detector fitted there! You'd think they would stick a large red sticker over the actual unit. You can't rely on everyone to read instruction booklets.

I prefer it cold to hot, just put on jumpers and wack up the heating :D

  21. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

    Jumpers = sweaters.

Wacking up the heating isn't such an appealing option over here. Electricity is one commodity I have found to be more expensive than the UK.......in fact, ridiculously so. Most houses here do not have gas as an option.

We don't use our heating, we use wood. So electricity is for hot water and lights, stereo, TV, washing machine, oven etc, and in the mid of winter a utilities bill for a 3-person dwelling is around 160 quid ($300) per MONTH...so that's nearly 500 quid ($900) a quarter. Go ask your folks what a winter quarterly leccy bill is mcadam, for your home ;)

Oh, and I work hard to keep that bill down...that's quite cheap to what some here will clock up, I imagine!

  22. mcadam

    mcadam Major Amnesia

I could only find a bill from July that was about £290 or so....

  23. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

..and that's electricity for 3 months , right? They used to do them quarterly...dunno if they still do over there....

  24. Solange

    Solange Sergeant Major

I prefer it warm, late spring till early autumn is the best for me. Don't like the humid hot London area in July so much though... :D

Good thing about this time of year is you have a good excuse to have a Glögg, for medicinal purpposes of course! ;)

    http://www.brunnvalla.ch/schweden/images/gloegg.gif

Best served hot, with almonds! :)

That's how I know he's on fire watch again. It's nearly 5pm and he hasn't called to say he's on his way home, as usual, and he sure ain't logging after 1pm.

Maybe your business will pick up......then you can get your butt up here and buy me breakfast :p

  30. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Sheesh...what does a girl have to do to get breakfast around here? :p

Wow.... That's nothing compared to how cold Canada gets.... I am so used to the extremely cold (actually below freezing) weather here it's feels...........Normal. and I love it

The body will adapt. Just give it time. People, also adapt. During the winter months, 5 cm of snow in a day anywhere in Canada is lucky. In Europe it's a major frickin' disaster worthy of international newscasts. In Canada, they will close schools and government offices when we get 25 cm of snow. In Europe, they close countries. Over 30 cm is required before some businesses allow tardiness to go unpunished. They still expect you to try to get to work. So, it's just what you're used to. Before emigrating to Canada, I hailed from Ashton-Under-Lyne in the Greater Manchester, England area. The winters were mild. When the mercury plumetted to "freezing" you'd wear an extra "jumper". In Canada, when the temperature rises to freezing, we sweat buckets in our winter gear, and most of us have played "road hockey" in our short sleeved tee-shirts for hours at a time. So even a thin skinned ex-pat Brit can adapt.:)
